On
December 3, at 5am I woke up and thought my water had broken. I woke
William up and called the hospital and Dr. Ashurst was on call. He told
me to come in and we'd check to see if my water had broken. When I got
to the hospital I told the nurse what had happened and she told me that
for sure I had lost my mucus plug and we'd check to see if my water had
broken. She use a piece of special paper to check to see if the fluid
was amniotic fluid. The test was inconclusive so she sent me home. My
mom was all upset, she wanted me to have te baby then and she told me
that at 3am my water was gonna break.
Well, we got home and went about with our usual routine.
I
was starting
to get excited though because I had started having some contractions.
We went on to bed that night and at 2:15am I woke up to a gush of
fluid. I knew for sure then that my water had broken. I woke William up
again and called my mom. All she had to say was "I told you so." She
could have at least told me at 6am it'd break, closer to daylight.William drove me to the hospital and this time I was no where near as nervous. We got to the hospital and the nurse checked me and I was 2-3 cm. I was having mild contractions but nothing too bad. It wasn't long til the nurse came back in, saw my eyes closed during a contraction and decided I needed pain medication. I was also very sick at my stomach so she gave me something for that too. I don't remember a whole lot after I got that shot because it knocked me out. They were having trouble keeping up with the baby's heartbeat so they had to use an internal monitor, and lemme tell ya, that thing hurt when they put it in. They also had to use one for keeping up with my contractions. I don't remember much from my labor, but I do know I started running a slight fever right before she was born. And I know I almost had to have a c-section. I made it to 4 cm and wasn't going any further. They came in one last time to check me before prepping me for the c-section and I was 8 cm, they came back in a few minutes later and I was 10 and ready to push. I did have an epidural and that thing was wonderful. I didn't feel a thing. It didn't hurt to get it either, just like a normal needle stick. I didn't like one thing about it though, one of the side effects of it is trembling all over, and believe me, I had it bad. They kept me knocked out even after I got the epidural because I was shaking so bad, I couldn't handle it. All in all I was in labor from start to finish for 15 hours and 30 minutes. When it came time to push I was a little nervous, I didn't know if I'd know how to push. But apparently I did. I only pushed for 8 minutes and I had a beautiful baby girl. ![]() Total length of labor: 15 and a half hours Medication received: Stadol, Pitocin, Epidural Total time spent pushing: 8 minutes Who was present at the birth: William and my mom Time of birth: 5:43 pm Weight: 8 pounds Length: 21 inches Sex: Female Name: Heaven Leigh Anne Thrasher Hair: black and sticking straight up Eyes: blue Hospital born in: Baptist Medical Center South Montgomery, AL Doctor who delivered: Dr. Dent Williams APGAR Scores: 8, 9 |
